The Royal College of Art actively engages with business in a number of ways. At InnovationRCA the focus is on helping stimulate interdisciplinary innovation by bringing together the communities of design, science and technology and business to promote knowledge exchange.
IP generating Triangle Projects with Imperial Innovations help advance very early stage technological and scientific inventions through design innovation to create new products. Early examples include tools for keyhole surgery and personal fitness.
Themed technology symposia and workshops ring together corporate, public sector and academic researchers to exchange ideas and new knowledge. These events are important catalysts for collaboration between designers and technologists - for example in the fields of material science or electronics sensors and photonics and they help in deepening expertise in the service of national, economic and social priorities.
InnovationRCA also hosts an annual innovation and knowledge exchange lecture, Innovation Night in which world leading designers, industrialists are challenged to share their ideas and insights with an RCA and business audience. The event brings together many disciplines and sectors and allows valuable connections to happen. Past speakers include Sir James Dysons, Apple's Sir Jonathan Ive, You-Tube's Chad Hurley, Burberry's Christopher Baily and will.i.am.
