Design-Technology Incubation Event

Insights into the creation and incubation of early stage interdisciplinary ventures

Starting new businesses in the UK is relatively easy. Sustaining and scaling them is more difficult.

Business incubators and accelerators can have a major impact on start-up survival and growth. As the Royal College of Art approaches its sixth year of incubating early-stage design-led technology start-ups:

  • What processes and indicators have helped the incubator progress student ventures to faster and bigger exits?
  • What lessons can be learnt around inter-disciplinary team formation in these start-ups?
  • What bottlenecks constrain the UK's designer entrepreneurs? Can learning outcomes be scaled across the UK?

On the 28th June, at an event at the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts, the InnovationRCA Incubator will be asking these questions and discussing the Incubator and Incubatee perspectives on the challenges, successes and processes that have been emerging during the incubation of student start-ups with disruptive design-technology innovations.

Speakers will include members of the Incubator team, past ventures and representatives from NESTA.
