David Higgins was appointed Chief Executive of the Olympic Delivery Authority on 30 March 2006. Prior to joining the ODA, he was Chief Executive of English Partnerships, the Government’s national regeneration agency, for three years. He holds a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Sydney and is a fomer Managing Director and Group Chief Executive of the Lend Lease Group, an international property and construction company.
David Higgins’ Innovation Lecture at the RCA marked the latest stage in on a growing relationship between InnovationRCA and the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), which aims to position the College as a lead institution for art and design in relation to the 2012 London Olympic Games and their legacy.
An inter-disciplinary workshop held in February 2008 invited 50 postgraduate artist and designers from the RCA, the University of East London and London Metropolitan University to invent new uses for gabions – the steel baskets that will hold reclaimed rubble from the Olympic Parkland as support for bridges and riverbanks. The results can be seen here.
Further Olympics collaborations are in development.
